A closer look at how acupuncture and chiropractic work well together to get patients well.Acupuncture has been around for over 2000 years. Written documentation started approximately 2000 years ago, but it has been around a lot longer than that. It is a time honored healing system that works by gently bringing the body back into harmony. At Harmonic Acupuncture, I practice Five Element Acupuncture. The goal is to gently balance the body so itmay heal itself physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Very fine gauge needles are gently inserted into specific points to activate the Qi or energy in that point. Each treatment is unique in the set of points that is used. Moxa, a cone of dried herbs, is also used to warm and tonify the points. The purpose of this is to restore the natural balance of our body’s energy. Chiropractic, in essence, is very similar. They recognize that the brain and the nervous system control and coordinate everything in the body. They also seem to have their own version of life energy or chi as well. They call it “innate intelligence.” This innate intelligence rather than flowing through meridians throughout the body instead is located in the brain and nervous system. And any interference with the nervous system can lead to malfunction in the body. If the body is not functioning properly and is not in balance, often sickness and disease will occur. That is why chiropractors take an extra close look at the spine, because the nerves that the brain uses to communicate with the rest of the body exit the spine at almost every single level where there is a vertebrae. These nerves can be interfered with if the spine isn’t in correct alignment. They find and correct these misalignments and restore that flow of healing energy from the brain to the body. There are times in a healthcare practitioner’s career that they will have a “trouble patient.” Patients who seem to defy all that you’ve been taught about how to get people well. For some reason they don’t respond to anything that you do. You could do one of two things.. You could keep on treating them and hope that things will turn around over time, or you could refer them out to another place to see if they can make progress. Chiropractic is great to use in conjunction with acupuncture. So, you can see that the principles of the two healing arts are very similar at their core. Acupuncture uses needles to help channel energy into and out of the body to seek balance therein, and chiropractic seeks to restore proper flow of energy and communication between the brain and the nervous system. If you are curious about chiropractic and would like more information, check out our friends over at Dynamic Spine & Rehab, and maybe take a look at some of their blogs, to learn more. They are great and I would highly recommend.

There has been a lot of discussion about digestive issues, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), celiac disease and leaky gut to name a few. I have read about so many diets and supplements that claim to be the cure all. Some make sense and some seem to be a scam. I believe that there is not one perfect diet for all people, since each of us is unique. The beauty of Chinese Medicine is that it treats each individual by gently harmonizing the body. When Marcy prescribes Chinese herbs, each formula is unique to address each individual’s unique symptoms. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs address the root cause of the digestive issue. If you would like more information, please contact Marcy here, for a free 30-minute consultation. Marcy L’Hommedieu, at Harmonic Acupuncture in Savannah GA, is a licensed Five Element Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist
The Yin and Yang symbol is two halves of a whole. Click here for a cool interaction between Yin and Yang. You cannot have Yin without Yang and Yang without Yin. Yang is male and is associated with daylight, dryness and light, while Yin is female and associated with nighttime, fluids and dark. The symbol tells us so much about life and the flow of nature that is in each of us, as there is always Yin within Yang and Yang within Yin. The two flow together and balance each other out. To make sure your Yin and Yang are balanced, you may contact Marcy L'Hommedieu with Harmonic Acupuncture in Savannah, GA by clicking here. Marcy specializes in Five Element Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acutonics®. These 3 modalities may work together to harmonize the body, but may also be used independently.

What you put in your body affects the way the Qi (energy) flows through the meridians. A healthy, well-balanced diet will help your body stay harmonized. Click here to read this fact-based article about Coconut Oil. Regardless of tests and facts, if something works for you, then I believe it works for you. Many people have asked me if acupuncture will help with weight loss. I believe that acupuncture can help a person lose weight by balancing the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies. For instance, if a person is eating out of stress, acupuncture along with Chinese Herbs and the Acutonics® Healing system can gently align the body so a person will be able to cope with the stress better. Getting treatments is not a magic pill for weight loss. A person will still have to eat healthy and exercise. For more information, click here.
